State-of-the-Art Laser Expertise

TWO LVP-40CFX MITSUBISHI LASERS

GenMet has a two Laser Flexible Manufacturing System with a 16-shelf material tower. The two 4000 watt lasers each have a work area that is 60”x 120” and we use Ncell nesting for the best possible material utilization.

Materials handled in this system include:

  • Mild Steel up to 5/8”
  • Stainless Steel up to 1/2″
  • Aluminum up to 3/8 “

When the Isbisters purchased GenMet in 1999, they inherited a stand-alone, 3000-watt Mitsubishi Laser. They soon realized that to stay competitive in today’s global marketplace, they would need to invest in state of the art technology to gain a competitive advantage. They worked with Mitsubishi and Advanced Manufacturing Solutions (AMS) to design GenMet’s first automated laser system. The new system helped GenMet expedite the manufacturing process, reducing cutting lead times and labor costs.

In 2008, the company worked again with AMS and Mitsubishi to replace in their existing equipment with a newer, more advanced laser system. The new Flexible Manufacturing System has two 3015LVP/40CFX 4000 watt Mitsubishi Lasers operating with a 16-shelf material tower, six nest carts and automated material handling system. The new machines cut twice as fast as the previous ones did, and deliver better edge conditions, which have again reduced labor requirements. The new system has allowed GenMet to produce complex parts faster, at tighter tolerances, and more cost effectively.

“The service and training we’ve received from Mitsubishi over the past decade have been exceptional,” says Eric Isbister. “and the teams at AMS and NCell have worked together to train our staff on the new systems, helping us maximize our efficiency. They’ve shared with us the lessons they learned outside of our company. We don’t need to reinvent the wheel. MITS, AMS and Ncell help to keep us moving forward.”
